The book that started it all

To Lydia, Steven, Molly, Owen, and Liam,

Well, hello, my wonderful children. I want you to know how proud I am of all of you, and that it is the greatest joy of my life to be your dad. You can thank Lydia for this site and all the words that are on it. A couple of years ago, she gave me a book called My Father’s Life: Dad, I want to know everything about you for Christmas. The book is full of writing prompts for me to share my life with you.

After she gave it to me, I got really excited to do the writing and share it, but I didn’t really want to hand write all of the answers in the book. However, I also felt bad not sharing my handwriting as part of the process. So, I set the book on my bed stand and stewed about how best to do the writing for awhile. Then, in true Jeff Winget, “I have severe ADHD” fashion, I forgot about the book, and it sat on my bed stand for a long time. I am very sorry for the wait. I think you will all see through my stories that it isn’t at all out of character for me to struggle with follow through on things. A lot of it is ADHD, but some of it is just that I’m always looking for the next shiny thing. It’s taken a long time to realize that’s a strength in my personality, not a flaw. I hope through my writing that you will come to that conclusion as well.

Since Lydia decided it would be a good idea to tattoo my handwriting on herself, I feel better about typing my responses to the prompts. Also, my handwriting is practically unreadable at this point. So, I hope you will forgive the typed memoir-of-sorts.

Anyway, now that I have gotten started with this little project, I hope to write stories regularly that you can read when you want. Putting it on a website makes it easy to share, and involving you in the process will help me be accountable to actually finish. I hope that this project is something that you find value in.

I love you all, Dad
